Our Pastor and Family
In the summer of 1988 God sent a young couple to Mountain View Baptist Church. Little did these newlyweds know what God had in store for them and their family. James and Julie Harvey, or Jamie as we call him, came to Mountain View looking for a Church yet received much more. In December of 1990 God provided Jamie and Julie their first of two sons, Seth. In September of 1994 Nathan came along. After 9 years of serving God as a Deacon, Sunday School teachers, and choir members at Mountain View, God called Jamie to preach. One year later , July of 1998, God called Jamie to pastor his home church. Now in 2008, Jamie and Julie have been married for 21 years, Mountain View members for 20 years, and Pastor and pastors wife for 10 years. God has wonderfully blessed Mountain View and this ministry. We invite you to worship with us and to meet our Pastor and his family.
Message From the Pastor
Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.
Jeremiah 6:16
It was only a year ago that we started up this website. We wanted to use any tool available to reach a lost and dying world. The world wide web provided us the means to reach many that we might never meet in person. In this website we want to present not only the way to salvation but to also demonstrate the importance of making a stand. The old saying goes something like this, "If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything." In I Corinthians 15:58 we are instructed to be stedfast and unmoveable. This does not suggest that we be stubborn, but rather that we as Christians stand for and "abound in the work of the Lord".
The theme verse for our website comes from Jeremiah 6:16. Ask for the old paths, where is the good way. In a world that is ever changing, some good, some bad; there will always be a need to hold on to something that has always worked and needs not change. The Lord said in Hebrews 13:8 that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. While many churches are making changes to appeal to the ways of a modern society, we at Mountain View Baptist Church believe that this modern world needs the old paths of a loving and forgiving God. We make no apologies for old fashioned worship, singing, praying, and the Word of God. We make this stand not because it worked for Mom and Dad, Grandmother and Grandfather; we make this stand because it works period! "Victory in Jesus" still can be a way of life! "Just as I Am" still invites souls to the saving grace of the Lord Jesus Christ! "Amazing Grace" is still amazing! John 3:16 is still in the King James Bible!
We invite you to visit this site as often as you wish. Let us know of the Lord's goodness to you and your family. If you are ever in the northeast Georgia area we invite you to join us for worship. If you enjoy the old ways of worship, singing, and preaching then we believe you will feel at home with the people of Mountain View. When these days have passed and eternity is at hand, then we want our testimony to include the words of Ephesians 6:13. "Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand".
In Christ, Bro. James Harvey
How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
